Bidding Process
PHASE 1On 26 October 2006, the bidding process for the World Air Games 2009 was launched in close cooperation with TSE Consulting, an international management consultancy specialised in the sports world with head office in Lausanne, Switzerland. Documents made available to the potential bidders can be viewed here : On 8 February 2007, five candidate cities were selected by the FAI Executive Board on the basis that their bid applications demonstrated that they possessed the proper capacity and vision for hosting the event. The cities of London (GBR), Melbourne (AUS), Moscow (RUS), Odense (DEN), and Turin (ITA) were invited to enter Phase 2 of the bidding process (see Press release).
PHASE 2The selected Candidate Cities of London (GBR), Melbourne (AUS), Moscow (RUS), Odense (DEN) and Turin (ITA) had until 2 April 2007 to submit their complete bid book. On the basis of the submitted bid books, the on-site evaluation visits that took place during April and evaluation reports by FAI Experts, the FAI Executive Board announced on 3 May 2007 that Moscow, Odense and Turin had been invited to come to Lausanne on 1 June 2007 to make final presentations to the FAI Selection Committee (see Press release).
HOST SELECTION EVENTOn 1 June 2007 at the Olympic Museum in Lausanne, representatives of the bid committees of Moscow (RUS), Odense (DEN) and Turin (ITA) made a final presentation of their bids to the 12 members of the FAI Selection Committee. The event was open to the public and well attended. After the FAI Selection Committee’s secret ballot vote, the FAI President Pierre PORTMANN announced that Turin (ITA) had been chosen to host the World Air Games 2009. Following the Selection Event, Presidents of FAI Air Sport and Technical Commissions and Members of the FAI Executive Board unanimously committed to making the World Air Games 2009 a successful event and adopted the "Declaration on World Air Games" (580 Ko). The World Air Games 2009 Organiser Agreement was signed in Paris on 8 August 2007 by FAI President Pierre PORTMANN and Turin LOC President Bruno RAMBAUDI, thus marking the launch of the preparation phase of the 3rd World Air Games.
