SELECTION OF VENUES

The Main Venue for the World Air Games 2009 will be the Torino Aeritalia Airport; two Satellite Venues will be located in Avigliana and Mondovi.

The experience of the Winter Olympic Games 2006 in Turin led the Bidding Committee to propose a series of World Air Games events actually in the town centre, allowing the entire population to become involved.

TORINO AERITALIA AIRPORT

Torino Aeritalia Airport (LIMA) is the homebase of the Aero Club Torino and will be the Main Venue for the World Air Games 2009.

Being very close to the city, but within sight of majestic mountains, the Torino Aeritalia Airport was inaugurated in 1916 and is one of the oldest airports in Italy. Two parallel runways (main concrete : 1050 m / grass : 750 m) are east-west oriented (10/28); large areas of grass will be available for spectators and parking in the immediate proximity.

Competitions for Aerobatics (aircraft and gliders), Aeromodelling, Gliding, Helicopters, Microlights, Parachuting and Experimental Aircraft will be held at the Main Venue.

MONDOVI

Hot Air Balloon competitions will be held in Mondovi, a small city located 70 km south of Turin. The Mondovi area is already well-known to the ballooning community; a brand-new “Balloonport” was inaugurated in 2007.

This competition site being remotely located from the Main Venue, the LOC will integrate Hot Air Ballooning events, Athletes and Officials with the other World Air Games activities by implementing measures such as, for example, the use of large TV screens, transportation between the venues, common events, etc.

AVIGLIANA

Located 14 km from the Main Venue, the town of Aviagliana is ideally located between a chain of mountains and two lakes.

Competitions for Hang Gliding (Speed Run and Aerobatics) and Paragliding (Aerobatics and Landing Accuracy) will make best use of the topographical situation.

This competition site being some distance from the Main Venue, the LOC will integrate Hang Gliding / Paragliding events, Athletes and Officials with the other World Air Games activities by implementing measures such as, for example, the use of large TV screens, transportation between the venues, common events, etc.

DOWNTOWN TURIN

Thanks to the proximity of the City of Turin, the experience gathered during the Winter Olympic Games 2006 and a wish to bring the World Air Games as close to the public as possible, the LOC proposes to organise several events in the heart of the city :

Indoor Aeromodelling
The "Indoor AeroMusicals" Aeromodelling event should be hosted in the Palaruffini circular indoor sports arena, which can accommodate up to 4000 spectators.

Opening Ceremony / Exhibitions
The parade of all participating athletes, the official opening of the World Air Games 2009, special exhibitions and events during the whole week of the Games are planned to take place on the most prestigious central squares in Turin (Piazza San Carlo / Piazza Vittorio).

TICKETING

Tickets are required to access the Torino-Aeritalia Airfield located in Collegno, where competitions in Aerobatics, Aeromodelling, Gliding, Parachuting, Helicopters, Microlights and Experimental Aircraft will be held.
Two options are available : General entry or Grandstand seats.
