Parachuting
The FAI Parachuting Commission (IPC) is the International Air Sport Commission responsible, within FAI, for developing the Parachuting air sport events available for inclusion in the Event Program of the World Air Games, for preparing Competition Rules and selecting the Athletes invited to the World Air Games.
This section provides information and references on the Parachuting disciplines included in the Event Program of the World Air Games 2009.
The structure and content of this section will be regularly updated to reflect preparation work completed by the LOC and the Commission.

IPC INFORMATION BULLETINS
Open
Parachuting (or Skydiving, to use its increasingly popular name) provides a wide variety of breath-taking, dynamic and very attractive competitive events focusing on athletes rather than aircraft. Parachuting & Skydiving events are very attractive for spectators, since modern technologies may be used to follow and display the athletes’ performance on large screens in front of the public.
FREESTYLE
Freestyle is a kind of aerial ballet artistic event, judged on difficulty, execution, artistic value and camera presentation. The objective of Freestyle Skydiving is to record a sequence of freestyle moves and poses in freefall. Judges of the Freestyle performances use video images produced by the performer’s own camera flyers.

LANDING ACCURACY
This event belongs to the Parachuting "Classic Events". Landing Accuracy requires precise flight control of the open parachute, while competitors attempt to land as close as possible to a tiny bull’s eye, just 2 cm in diameter.

FORMATION SKYDIVING
This is a speed event where teams of four athletes, accompanied by a videographer, compete to complete the maximum number of formations from a sequence drawn from a dive pool. Each round comprises a different sequence.

CANOPY FORMATION
In Canopy Formation events, teams of four members compete under open parachutes (canopies). Once out of the aircraft, they deploy their parachutes immediately and compete either to score as many different stack formations as possible (Rotation) or to execute a number of formations as defined by draw from a dive pool of figures (Sequential). Judges use video images of Canopy formation performances produced by the performers’ own camera-flyers.

CANOPY PILOTING
In Canopy Piloting events, individuals initiate a rapid descent rate to reach very high speeds and race across a body of water while negotiating an obstacle course, and achieving scores for speed, distance and accuracy.
